The District Jajpur came into being 1st April 1993 by dividing it off its erstwhile Cuttack District which after division became Cuttack Jagatsingpur, Jajpur and Kendrapada.
Famous for centuries as Jajanagar. It was the capital of ancient Odisha under the Bhaumakar kings. Hiuen-Tsang, the Chines Traveler found it a flourishing city of trade and commerce in 7th century A.D.
District Tourist Office
Description – Tourist Office, Jajpur is functioning w.e.f. 03-08-2011 at Biraja Panthasala, Devidwar, Jajpur.
Objectives – Tourist Office provides information on amenities, attraction and approach of tourist places as identified by Department of Tourism in the district. Collect, compile and disseminate tourism data and information to the tourist. Distribute free tourist literature and priced publication along with other saleable tourism product supplied by the department. To co-ordinate different offices and organization for development of tourism industry.
Organizational structure – Tourist Officer, Government of Odisha Tourist Office, At-Biraja Panthasala, P.O.-Devidwar, Dist-Jajpur.
Activities – Liaison with district administration with regard to external infrastructural development at tourist destination. Attend all district level meeting to place requirement, problems and bottlenecks on the way of tourism development, participate in fairs and festivals, other events to popularize tourist attraction of the State as a whole and district in particular among the guest and local. Collect data tourist arrivals in hotels and places of tourist interest, preparation of itineraries for inquisitive tourist as per their requirement. Supervise the management of Panthasala and Pantha Nivases of the district along with expansion of tourism projects. Provide guide services to the noted guests of the department and the administration. Always trying to satisfy tourist coming into contact and invite more visitor providing suitable and positive information.

Description :
Biraja Temple - Biraja the "Goddess Durga" is the presiding deity. The two armed Mahisamardini Durga is worshipped here. Biraja Kshetra is important in India as Navigaya Kshetra where 'Pinda' is offered for the satisfaction of the ancestors. A car festival is held in each year of Durga Puja period.

Navigaya - Jajpur has its unique importance in India as Navigaya Kshetra where “Pinda” is offered for the satisfaction of the ancestors. It is located inside the campus of Maa Biraja Temple. The devotees after offering oblations their ancestors must be witnessed by the Lord Gadadhar and holy darsan of Goddess Biraja as she is respectable of all ancestral man.
Subhastambha - The graceful well proportioned tall chlorite pillar known as Subha Stambha stands in its lone majesty from 10th century AD. A beautiful monolithic pillar measuring 33’8” from the grand level is a unique figure of Odisha
Atharanala Bridge - Like Puri Atharanala Bridge was built upon the river Madakini flowing through Jajpur on way to Goddess Biraja temple.
Bramhakunda - The biggest sacred tank with flight of stone steps on four sides are situated just behind of Goddess Biraja Temple. It is believed a great Brahmanical sacrifice at Jajpur performed by Brahma and emergence of Biraja from sacrificial pit.
Trilochaneswar Temple – The temple is situated at a short distance to the south of Biraja Temple besides the stream Hansarekha. The temple is a gigantic structure built in 1395 A.D., bears beautiful Ganga style of art and the presiding deity is single Mukha Linga. It constitute one of the 69 Swayambhu Lingas in India.
The 18 armed Chamunda known as “Naa Hata Deula re Athara Hata Kalli” worshipped as Mahalaxmi inside the temple complex.
Dasaswamedha Ghata - Yayati Keshari is credited to have performed horse sacrifice on the bank of Vaitarani. For performing the sacrifice, he had brought ten thousand Brahmins from Kanyakubja. Since then the place of the sacrifice exists in the name of Dasaswamedha Ghata. Hindus coming from whole of the world take bath on the river Vaitarani at above famous Ghata. They offer cow (Go-dan) to Tirtha pandas and believe that if the “Go-dan” is made there will be no rebirth. The ‘Go-dan’is known as Vaitarani Dan.
Saptamatruka Temple - The Goddess of seven mothers are being worshipped in a small temple on the bank of river Vaitarani. The devine mothers are Brahmi, Maheswari, Kaumari, Vaisnavi, Varahi, Indrani and Chamunda.
Jagannath Temple - Near the Dasaswamedha Ghata, Lord Jagannath temple is builted by king Yayati Keshari. Like Puri, Jagannath Mahaprasad is not prepared, but every day two times Bal Bhoga is offered to the deities.
Varahanath Temple - Situated on the bank of the river Vaitarani. The shrines of Sweta Varaha (the white boar incarnation of Lord Vishnu) is worshiped here. The deities have been designed in black chlorite slave of stone. The complex is possesses other temples like Sun temple, Kasi Biswanath temple, Sri Chaitanya Pada Pitha, Sunya Vedi and the temples of Goddess Chamunda.
Abunasser Mosque (Sahi Mosque) – Abu Nasser Khan, the Deputy Subadar of Odisha built a mosque on the side of the river Baitarani in the year of 1686-87 A.D. is called Sahi Mosque. It stands majestically near Gandhi Chhak. The style of built is like Turkish Mosque.
Cenotaph Of Sayed Alli Bokhari – It is an important monument stands in front of Collectorate, Jajpur. After death of Sayed Alli Bokhari, he was buried at this place as per Percians inscription found that place. Now the Cenotaph serves the purpose of Hindu-Muslim unity where the both sects go and offer worship their.

Chhatia - Chhatia is popularly known as Chhatia Bata as sacred place of pilgrimage. The shrine of Lord Jagannath at Chhatia is a modern piece of Odisha Temple Architecture. It is the saint Mahapurusa Hadi Das Samadhi Pitha. The trinity of Jagannath, Balabhadra Subhadra in militant form seated on horse back. The three deities brandish their sword in their hand.
Nearby one can find the archeological remains of Amaravati-Katak one of the five important forts of Chodogangadeva. It is a ruined fort with laterite stone is still available which have been renovated and conserved by State Archaeology.

Ratnagiri - Ratnagiri, the “hill of jewels” is situated on an isolated hill of Asian range. The hill is bounded on three sites by rivers i.e. Brahmani, Kimiria and Birupa respectively. The hill affording a panoramic view of the surrounding may have been chosen as an ideal spot for the Buddhist settlement. During 8th-9th century AD, this becomes a great centre of Tantric Buddhism or Vajrayana art and philosophy. Hiuen Tsang, the Chinese pilgrims found it to be the seat of a flourishing University called Puspavihar. Most of the images like magnificently carved doorjamb of the vihar and the superbly finished Buddha images are amazing artistic excellence of finest specimen of post Gupta period of arts. A museum at Ratnagiri displays fine sculptural figure found at the site dating from 9th-10th century.

Singhapur – The village Singhapur in the district of Jajpur is famous for its presiding deity “Narayan Gosain”. The deity according to prevailing practice is kept under water in a tank through out the year. On the day of Mahavisuva Sankranti in the month Vaisakh every year, local Brahmin priests bring the deity out of water in presence of Raja Saheb of Madhapur and thousands of devotees. Then it is taken in a procession to the temple located by the side of the tank. There the deity is kept and worshipped for three dap with usual pump and ceremony. On the forth day before the sunrise, the priests take the images out of the temple and place it under the water as usual in the tank.
